This MTU tweak surely doubled my Internet speed. Now I started downloading stuff which I could not dream of downloading before because of the sheer size. The first thing I did after downloading and tweaking the MTU setting was to download the huge ICQ 99a ( about 3.99 MB). It used to take me nearly 1 and 1/2 hours previously. But now this thing got downloaded in just 50 mins flat. Also my webpages also load very much faster and you can visually make out the difference in loading speeds of the web pages.
Unfortunately I don't know any other users who could also testify about the gain in their Internet connection although you can read the feedback given to the programs I have mentioned above:

Also this website ( http://www.infinisource.com/maxmtu.html) has everything you wanted to know about MTU settings and how to change them.
This website (http://users.aol.com/axcel216/modem.htm)has a large no. of links to articles and programs dealing with MTU.
Excellent Modem FAQ site :- http://www.aimnet.com/~jnavas/modem/faq.htm
But I would love to hear from you about how this article affected your Internet connection. Just remember, I am not promising huge download speeds here. Everything I have said here works on a telephone line without any interference and noise. If you have a very noisy telephone connection the results will vary. The speeds I have said are the read outs from DU-Meter and FileHound and not from Windows's System Monitor. You may or you may not experience the difference in speed. But the programs allow you to go back to the Window's default setting.

You can download the other programs I have mentioned here from these sites:
