If you are configuring your system manually, check the configuration of Modem and TCP/IP Control Panels and then come back to this page again.

Now you are ready and almost there. Please read the information carefully and also check out the images which are in the links. Click the links and images will open in a new window. They help a lot in understanding your configuration.

1. Go to the Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> PPP. This action will open the PPP Control Panel.

2. Fill in the user name in the Name field. You can fill in the password too and click save password if you are in a protected area alternatively leave it blank. Fill it whenever you connect. Type in the telephone number. You can change it any time.

3. Now click on the Option button.

4. In the Options window you have to configure three tabs.

5. Set the Redialing according to your needs.

6. In the Connection tab do these:

   1. Check the connect Automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.

   2. Flash icon in menu bar shows you that you are connected.

   3. Disconnect if idle for (specify time) minutes

7. The Protocol tab is very important. This is where you will return to reconfigure your automated connection process.

   1. Check the Allow correction and compression in modem.

   2. Click and select Connect to Command-line host. This will bring up the Terminal window when you connect.

   3. Click the radio button to Use Terminal Window.

8. Close the Options window and click on Connect button.

By clicking the connect button PPP will dial up VSNL as according to the telephone number you have provide. After a connection is established you see the Terminal window.

However remember that if you had chosen Null Modem from the Modem Control Panel, PPP will not dial up for you. Instead the Terminal window will popup and you will have to enter the commands.
