When you signed up
with TATA ISP for an Internet account, you received an email ID, or username.
Your email ID is a unique name you use to log on to TATA ISP and send
and receive email.Your email address is emailID@vsnl.com. Make sure your
friends, family, and business associates know your email ID and email
address, but DO NOT tell otherswhat your password is. 2. How do I check for my email? If you use your browser
to read email, open your Inbox and click Send and Receive or Get Msg (depending
on your browser). Your browser checks the mail server for new messages
and saves them in your Inbox. Learn more about checking for new email
messages. 3.What do I do with email messages after I read them? After you read an
email message, it remains in your inbox until you delete it.When you delete
the message, it is sent to your Trash folder. Depending on your email
program, the message will either be deleted immediately or will remain
in the trash until you empty it. You can also save a copy of the message
as a text file on your hard drive or sort it into a special email folder. To
save the message, choose Save or Save As from the File menu, name the
file, then press the return or enter key. Learn how to sort email message
into special folders in your inbox. 4. How can I find people's email addresses? There are several
online phonebooks that let you look up phone numbers, email addresses,
and physical addresses for people and businesses. You can also look up
phone numbers with your Personal Start Page's My Directory feature. Simply
click the more link next to My Directory to see all of its search tools.
5.Can I send a message to many people at once? To send messages to
more than one person, simply enter additional email addresses, separated
by commas, in the To, CC, or BCC fields of the email message window. Be
careful when sending to many people at once, many users do not like to
receive large amounts of unsolicited email. 6. Can I send Word documents in email? You can send Word
documents, spreadsheets, graphics files, and even small applications as
email attachments. When you attach a file to an email message, a copy
of the file is sent inside the email message. The file is automatically
downloaded to your recipient's hard drive when he or she checks for new
email. Learn how to send and receive email attachments. 7. Is there a maximum size for sending email attachments? No, but it's a good
idea to limit your attachments to documents or files smaller than 1,000
Kilobytes (1MB). Large attachments increase the size of your email messages
and make it more likely that the message will be rejected or mangled during
its voyage to your recipient. Read more attachment tips. 8. Someone sent me an attachment and I can't find it. Where did it go? Your email program
automatically saves email attachments on your hard drive and notifies
you with a special paperclip icon. If someone sends you an email message
with an attached file, you can open and use the file by opening the message
and clicking the paperclip icon in the message window. If your computer
can open the file, it will launch the appropriate program (or ask you
which program you want to use to open the file). 9. How much space do I have to store email messages? When someone sends
you an email message, it is stored on the ISP mail servers until you check
for your mail. Then it is downloaded to the inbox on your hard drive.
Your inbox can store as much mail as you have room on your hard drive,
but the ISP usually has a 10MB limit for mail on their servers. If you
exceed this amount, your mailbox may be transferred to a temporary compressed
file. If this happens, you will be notified and given the chance to decrease
the size of your emailbox. 10. Can I get more than one email account? Additional mailboxes
are an inexpensive way to let multiple people share one ISP dial-up account.
You can add additional mailboxes to your account for an additional fee. 11. Can I get my email when I'm traveling? If you're going to
be traveling with a portable computer, you can easily keep your email
correspondence up to date. All you need is a local dial-up number for
the location you'll be visiting. This facility is presently limited to
certain cities in India presently. 12. What should I do if I get junk emails? Unsolicited commercial
email, or "spam," is a big problem for the Internet. If you get
a junk email, DO NOT REPLY to the sender. Many spammers send email blindly,
so your response tells them that they found an active emailbox. You could
also report repeated occurances of unsolicited email to the ISP for blocking.Another
good practice is to NEVER EVER forward any chain mails to anyone, not
even your enimies. Chain mail is THE main perpetrator of Spam mail so
please desist from becoming a link in the chain. 13. Can my friends using other Internet companies or mail accounts send me email? You can receive email
from people around the world, no matter what Internet service provider
they use. Tell your friends to address their messages to your_username@vsnl.com.
Replace the
words your_username with your actual username.
